The University of Bologna, since 2007, provides qualified staff and the technological infrastructure for the collection, storage, publication and on-line dissemination of PhD theses in electronic format through the institutional repository AMS Dottorato.
The deposit in AMS Dottorato is addressed to all PhD students of the University of Bologna and must be made before the final examination, according to the deadlines set by the PhD Office.
The archive complies with international standards of interoperability and metadata transmission and is integrated with similar services at national and international level, allowing the valorisation of PhD theses through specific projects currently under way. In particular, the PhD theses of the University of Bologna are searchable in Google, Google Scholar, BASE Lab, DART-EUROPE, WorldCat, Opac of Florence, Openaire.
Through AMS Dottorato, the University of Bologna legally deposits the PhD theses at the National Central Libraries of Rome and Florence and guarantees their preservation and accessibility.
Persistent NBN and DOI identifiers are attached to all PhD theses, the latter exclusively for theses published in Open Access and following the expiry of any embargo period.
AMS Dottorato allows PhD theses to be published under licences that favour their discovery, study, sharing and re-use according to Open Science principles, by implementing specific licences, including Creative Commons licences.
Moreover, the archive offers the possibility of setting an embargo period, normally not exceeding 36 months, in the cases envisaged by the Academic Senate.
The AMS Dottorato archive is identified by ISSN 2038-7946.
